Bosch builds new $1.1 billion facility for autonomous cars and smart city infrastructure

Auto industry supply firm Bosch is planning to build a new facility to manufacture semiconductors for use in self-driving vehicles, smart city infrastructure, and smart homes around Dresden, Germany.

With an investment of about $1.1 billion, the facility will secure the position of the company as a key supplier to the auto industry in times of a shift to new mobility platforms and connected services begins.

“The new plant will also supply chips that provide more traditional functionality to cars, including those that trigger airbag deployment and control instrument panel readings, as well as in-car cellular connectivity,” Tech Crunch provides.

Commercial production will commence in 2021.
