Canada aims to deploy a national zero-emissions vehicle strategy by 2018

The Government of Canada is planning to develop and implement a national zero-emissions vehicle strategy by the year 2018 on the Canadian roads.  The plan includes partnership with provincial and territorial partners, industry and stakeholders along with a strategy implementation to increase the number of zero-emission vehicles(ZEVS) such as battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cells. Traffic pollution contributes to 24% of Canada’s emissions  and to advance the process, a national Advisory Group has been established to contribute to developing options for addressing the barriers for the five key areas of vehicle supply, cost and benefits of ownership, infrastructure readiness, public awareness, and clean growth and clean jobs. The Government of Canada has made an important start in supporting further deployment of ZEVs by providing $62.5 million in 2016 and $120 million in 2017 to deploy infrastructure for electric vehicle charging and refueling stations for alternate fuels such as gas and hydrogen, in the coming years.
