Montréal in Quebec, Canada is using Bluetooth to adress urban traffic problems. More than a hundred Bluetooth signal detectors were installed in the city over the past couple of months. These detectors are able to monitor and analyze traffic patterns in real-time daily, instead of just once a year during an annual traffic study. They track people ‘s Bluetooth devices in vehicles to identify how and how quickly cars are moving in the city. The people remain anonymous. Bluetooth should also be used by sensors to help identify when spot for parking is empty because a lot of the congestion results from drivers looking for a parking spot.
