Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, is ramping up urban development with an array of innovations. The city uses web-based planning mechanisms to involve residents in local government’s decision-making process.
For example, a lot of residents are using Qlue, a smartphone app with which users take pictures of uncollected garbage or broken street furniture, and report it to authorities. There are also face-to-face meetings, where people propose solutions for the most pressing of problems. Afterwards, they can check whether the city is making those solutions a reality on a web platform.
