Research published last week by researchers at Qilu University of Technology in China and Penn State in the US has scientists excited who have developed a method to convert the leaves into a porous carbon material that can be used in electronics.
Instead of burning the thousands of dead leaves each autumn, they can be made into organic supercapacitors with a simple process. The product then has surprising electrical properties, according to the researchers. They suggest that the supercapacitors could even rival the performance as those made from graphene.
