Tesla is starting to produce its first mass-market electric car this Friday, two weeks earlier than originally planned, delivering the Model 3 from July 28th on. The Model 3 is the first midpriced car by Tesla, and the company hopes to ramp up production from just 1,500 in September to 20,000 a month starting in December. Elon Musk said the goal for 2018 and the following years was even 500,000 cars.
Despite several hiccups and losses in the millions in some months, Tesla now has a market value of $58 billion, about $4 billion more than G.M. and $12 billion more than Ford Motor.
