As part of DOE’s Atmosphere to Electrons initiative, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) published a report that examines the future of wind power plants. The report reveals that energy science and technological breakthroughs could reduce the cost of wind energy by 50 percent by 2030. That would make wind energy fully competitive with natural gas.

Future wind power plants will respond to the atmosphere as an efficient, integrated system, and control the airflow within the plant to maximize power production.
