Smart infrared sensor powers itself

As part of the DARPA’s Near Zero Power RF and Sensor Operation (N-ZERO) program, researchers at Northeastern University have developed a smart sensor for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency that can identify infrared wavelengths, and is powered by those same wavelengths, not needing a separate power source.

Application range from detecting human bodies or cars to identifying wildfires even before they become a serious danger.
