The INDEX: Design to Improve Life Awards have been some of the most sought after design awards since 2013. This year, the winners improve the world of work, play and learning, home, body or community.

Among them is the What3Words app, which solves the problem that many people are hard to locate as they do not have addresses. It divides the world into 57 trillion 3x3m squares and assigns three specific words to each of these sections.

With Paperfuge, Stanford bioengineers have developed a low-cost and zero-electricity method of centrifuging blood samples.

GreenWave is an ocean farming system created to restore ocean ecosystems, mitigate climate change, and create jobs for fishermen. There are several more innovative winning inventions and startups.
